There are some specific rules related to use of the specific workshop areas of the Hackspace:

  • Never store anything the workshop areas. This includes your project, materials, waste, or donations. Ad-hoc storage is simply not appropriate in this environment, because of the potentially hazardous nature of the machinery.
  • If you're doing woodwork, you must do it in the Woodshop, This is to prevent rest of the space getting covered in sawdust.
  • Our bins don't accept wood, MDF, plywood, etc, so you need to take all your waste wood away with you. The only exception to this rule is bagged sawdust.
  • If you are using a machines which is connected to the dust collection system, or if you are using using a hand-held sander, you must use the dust collection system.
  • If the dust collector is full, bag up the waste and put it into the building's skip.
  • Sweep up and bin any remaining sawdust, and put tools away in their correct places.
  • If you're doing metal work, you must do it in the Metalshop. This is to prevent the rest of the space getting covered in oil, swarf, etc.
  • Our bins don't accept large pieces of metal, so you need to take this kind of waste waste away with you. There are some material-specific bins by the lathe for swarf, chips etc.
