Electronics Hot Plate

Burn Hazard

This hot plate can get hot enough to burn. Don't touch it.

This can be used to solder surface mount components on one side of a PCB. The temperature is set manually and there's a separate button for the hot plate.

The basic process is to apply solder paste and your components to the PCB, then put it on the cold hot plate, set the temperature and turn on the heat. Wait for the solder to reflow, then turn off the heat and leave it to cool down. Generally, you want to put the PCB on cold and leave it to cool down as taking it off hot may cause thermal shock on the PCB.

The actual temperature you want to heat to will depend on your solder paste. Obviously given that you're heating from below and the components are on top, you'll want to heat hotter than you would for re-flow.

You can also use this as a pre-heater with the hot air gun. This makes it much easier to repair / solder with the gun.
