Jointer - Delta 37-280

Laceration / Entanglement Hazard

This equipment is hazardous to the user or those around them, take care during use.

PPE Required

This equipment requires the use of eye protection / hearing protection during use.

Transformer

The Delta 37-280 is a 110 Volt Jointer (also called a “Planer” in the UK), so must be plugged into the yellow transformer.

  • The transformer must be disconnected from the power when not in use, as it will overheat and die if left connected.
  • The transformer has been attached to a plug that will turn off after a certain number of hours. Do not remove the transformer from the timer plug. Even though this device has been provided, you should still unplug the timer plug from the power when you have finished using it.

Notices

  • Ensure that whatever wood you are putting through the jointer does not have nails in it.
  • Please do not attempt to adjust or remove the knives: the process of correctly installing them is very time consuming (takes approximately 3 hours). If you feel like they need some adjustment, please make a post on the forum so any potential problems can be discussed before adjusting the knives.
  • The Jointer does not have dust collection - be prepared to sweep and hoover after use.

Basic Guidelines

  • Adjust the height of the infeed table using the dial underneath it. This affects the depth of cut. Lock off the dial with the locking nut so that it does not move while in use.
  • Check that your wood has no metal in it.
  • If you wish, find a pair of wood grippers. These can be used to hold down the wood while moving it over the jointer. They look like a handle with a flat plate underneath.
  • Turn on the Jointer
  • Place a piece of wood flat on the infeed table, and feed it over the knives. Ensure that you keep your hands out of the way.
  • Keep passing the same side of the wood over the jointer until it is flat - you can can often see that this is done when the whole piece of wood is freshly cut (a different colour).
  • Turn the wood over 90 degrees, and rest the now flat side against the barrier/wall. You can now joint this edge flat.
  • To flatten the other two sides, you'll need to use the thicknesser
