Don't bump into them and be respectful of usage space around the equipment. * Only drill vertically. This is not a mill / CNC machine. Things could go very wrong if the work piece is moved while drilling into it. * Tie long hair back (preferably tucking it into clothing). Be aware of beards if appropriate. * Don't wear loose clothing that might catch on any moving part. === Drill bits === * These are located on the wall behind the drill. * If a drill bit is broken during normal usage, replace with a spare drill bit from the "Spare bits" storage box. Do not use the spares if there are still suitable bits available. * If there are no more spares, make a note of the drill bit size and comment on the Discourse to get more stock. * The drill bits are good for general purpose use. === Usage === - If using Large drill bits see extra instructions below. - Move the working platform up or down by loosening the handle attached to the left of the platform. - Insert the relevant drill bit. Ensure the shank of the drill bit goes all the way into the chuck. - Tighten the chuck using the chuck key. - Align the hole in the platform with the drill bit. This is so that the surface won't be damaged if you do drill through the work piece. - Secure the work piece using the metal vice clamp to hold the piece so your hands don't have to. - Turn on machine with the start button. - Slowly use the three handles on the side to lower the drill into the work piece. - Rotate the handles **slowly** to remove the drill bit upwards from the work piece - do **not** just let go of the handles. === Changing Speed === * If you must turn off the drill by hitting the stop button and change the belt setting. When finished put it back to the default setting. === Tidying up === * Wait for a while to ensure that the drill bit is cool. If you can hold onto the bit for a long time (i.e. at least 3 seconds) with your bare hands, that is cold enough. * Remove drill bit from chuck. and put all drill bits back into their respective places. * Brush the drill and platform to remove excess material. Sweep area around drill press and bin the rubbish. ===Manuals=== ???? ===Using Large Drill Bits=== [[equipment:metalshop:pillardrill:usinglargebits]] equipment/metalshop/pillardrill/home Last modified: 18 minutes agoby ralawrence
